Prema Powerteam cruised to a double podium finish today in the final round of the 2011 European Formula Abarth Series held at the Catalan venue of Montmelò, close to Barcelona. Youngster Luca Ghiotto finished the two races respectively in second and third place, failing to achieve the rookies' championship title by just one length, but confirming the worth of Prema's choice to rely on some fresh, talented new drivers for the season. Vicky Piria also scored a positive points finish as she continued in the same positive path of Mugello and Monza, while after having scored the 7th fastest laptime in qualifying, Bruno Bonifacio was forced to retire by a contact on race 1 and ended up in 9th in the afternoon.
Angelo Rosin, Team Principal
“After the race at Monza that officially closed the Italian Series, we hit the end of the European championship at Barcelona with some much better results. Ghiotto didn't manage to grab the rookies championship just because of some mechanical issues over the season but nonetheless he ran great. It would have been a well-deserved reward for his fantastic effort as well as the team's. Piria ended up again with a points spot and that confirmed her growth over the whole season. Bonifacio had scored a great qualifying position, but didn't manage to achieve a top result. He will have to focus on this during the whole winter before coming back strong and ready in 2012."
