The Nürburgring one was expected to be a rebounding weekend for Prema Powerteam and Raffaele Marciello in their run for the 2013 FIA F.3 European Championship, and the team augurably accomplished the feature in Germany. Angelo Rosin and his team, including the Ferrari Driver Academy man, went on to dominate. After clocking the pole for all three races, Marciello also completed a double hat-trick by winning all three races, showcasing superior technical and driving quality.
In all the races, Marciello was off to good starts and quickly built himself nice margins to manage in the closing part of the distance. In Race 3 it also became an 1-2 for Prema thanks to Lucas Auer, who added a podium to his two top-5 finishes the first couple of runs.
Alex Lynn experienced a tough first race, ending up in 14th, but the Brit immediately succeeded in reversing his luck by finishing Race 1 and 2 in 7th and 7th. Eddie Cheever, who had finished the first two runs in 16th and 15th, managed to score an excellent top-10 spot in 9th.
Going out of the series' Nürburgring round, Marciello increased his margin over second-placed Rosenqvist as he stands with 372.5 points, 72.5 more than his main rival for the title. Third place was captured by Auer (211), who moved in front of Lynn (202). The next event for the FIA F.3 European Championship will be on September 28-29 at Zandvoort.
Angelo Rosin – Team Principal
“I said before that we were lining-up at the Nürburgring to win, but this time we even exaggerated! Marciello totally hammered down his rivals and our staff was able to provide him with an absolutely flawless car. Now we have some breathing room back, Raffaele recovered the advantage he had lost in the last summer rounds. Auer also enjoyed a good weekend as he stayed among the frontrunner before scoring a valuable 2nd place. I'm feel for Lynn who was behind his usual standards, while I appreciated the good job done by Cheever, who managed a top-10 position in the end.”
