Luca didn't surrender though. After having his nose replaced, he made it back to the track to verify the car's conditions for the following afternoon's race, and clocked the fastest lap of the day. Aboard the other car fielded by Prema Powerteam, Vicky Piria completed a good qualifying run by taking a spot on row 8. On race day, she finished the first heat of the weekend in 14th after having impressed while battling with her main opponents all-race long. Unfortunately, she was forced to retire after having felt slightly sick on Race 2.

“The weekend at Varano hasn't been really lucky for us. We had the right potential to score some valuable points and we were forced to end up with nothing. On a positive note, I'm really satisfied with how my two drivers raced. Vicky is each day more competitive and ready to battle, while Luca made some great steps forward in climbing his learning curve. We weren't expecting him to improve so much right from the start. Getting onto the podium at just his third race would have been an outstanding achievement, but we're determined to repeat such a good performance in the next round at Misano on June 5, where we'll line up for both the Italian and European series."
