The first round of the 2013 Eurocup F.Renault 2.0 season provided Prema with some good feedback although the results awaited by Angelo Rosin and his team did not come eventually. The entire weekend at Motorland Aragón was conditioned by the rain and by extremely low temperatures which proved particularly surprising considered the location and the time of year.
In Qualifying 1, split in two groups to accomodate the 37-car field, Luca Ghiotto clocked a very positive fourth fastest lap, good for a spot on row 4. Bruno Bonifacio, due to a technical issue, couldn't achieve more than a row 10 position. In Race 1, with the track finally back to dry conditions, Ghiotto lost positions throughout the race and ended up in 14th while his Brazilian team-mate made up several positions to finish in 12th.
Qualifying 2 was again run in extremely wet conditions. Ghiotto emerged as a top frontrunner as he held first place for most part of the session before settling for second in the closing stages. On the other hand, Bonifacio ended up with a place in row 9. In Race 2, the start was given with the safety-car on-track but unfortunately Ghiotto found himself with a damaged wing in a contact with an opponent. Despite the issue, he pushed hard and held onto third place in the opening laps. Then, he fell back to 5th before making a mistake and ending up in the gravel. Nonetheless, he managed to come back on-track but completed the race at the back of the pack. Once again, Bonifacio was off to a great recovery drive and almost clinched a points finish in 11th.
Angelo Rosin - Team Principal
"It hasn't been an easy weekend for us and we leave Alcaniz with a bitter taste in our mouths. Some technical issues and driving mistakes conditioned the two races and we weren't able to score points. Bonifacio and Ghiotto showed a good pace but we have to work hard for the next round at Spa-Francorchamps. Distractions are not allowed in the Eurocup…"
