Mick Schumacher delivered a fine performance for PREMA Racing today at Silverstone in the second race of the FIA Formula 2 weekend. The 20-year-old German racer put up an impressive pace starting from P11 and steadily improved his position as the race progressed. Towards the final stages, after catching the tails of the top-5, he also showed impressive form in traffic, facing several hard-fought situations. Eventually, he was able to secure a sixth place and get back to the points zone.
After being hit from behind and dropping to the last place at the beginning of race 1, Schumacher took his fate in his own hands and rebounded from a tough situation, setting the tone for the second half of the season where he now hopes to keep and increase the positive momentum.

“After the start, as the race calmed down, I closed the gap to the front in a few laps. We were in the fight and caught Ghiotto who had a problem, in Maggots-Becketts. Fighting with Latifi, we went side by side, I got no room and had to take a long way. I took a bigger bump than expected, and shortly after that my tires were finished and I had to cover from the back having lost the DRS. I’m very happy we managed to keep P6. I think we can be satisfied and positive about the weekend because race 1 was quite ok too. We went from P19 to P11 yesterday and from P11 to P6 today so the pace is definitely there. Now it’s very important to focus on qualifying.”
