Coming back into action after a long summer break, the Formula Regional European Championship will go underway again at one of Italy's most iconic racetracks, Imola, this weekend. Flowing up and down the hills around the city, the Autodromo of Imola has historically been one of the most challenging venues of the sport. In addition, there will be a pretty unique new variable for teams and drivers: four races will be held this weekend, to make up after the cancellation of race 3 at Vallelunga due to weather concerns.
So far, PREMA Powerteam has been the leading force of the brand-new championship, winning all but two races this season. Leading the chase is 18-year-old Dane Frederik Vesti, who has nine wins to his name.
While he relies on a considerable margin, with four rounds and 13 races to go his teammate Enzo Fittipaldi is far from out of contention. Standing under the Ferrari Driver Academy banner, the Brazilian delivered a spectacular comeback in the final rounds of the 2018 Formula 4 championship and has plenty of time to try and do it all again.
On the other hand, Olli Caldwell collected less dividends than he deserved in the first part of the year, and for him a good rebound is in order. The British racer showed skills and faced adverse fortunes but is expected to become a contender in the final stint of the season.
Angelo Rosin - Team Principal
"We look forward to picking up this exciting new challenge again. For sure we had a very successful run so far, there's no denying. But in the previous round at Red Bull Ring we saw that there are plenty good contenders to be dealt with, and that everybody needs full concentration and control, especially with a competitive line-up like ours, where all drivers are potential challengers for wins and podium finishes."
