It hasn't been an easy weekend for Prema Powerteam at Imola. The Italian circuit near Bologna hosted the Italian Formula 3 championship and Prema's team-mates Eddie Cheever and Brandon Maisano had a tough time as they collided in Race 1 after having dominated the front row in Qualifying 1. The Italian had cruised to the pole in front of the Ferrari Driving Academy Frenchman.
After the disqualification of the original race winner - and Prema's main rival in the hunt for title - due to a technical infringement, the win in race 1 went to Brazilian Henrique Martins, who had ended up in 5th and 6th in qualifying. Maisano finished in 8th, while Cheever was forced to retire. In Race 2, Maisano took third, followed by Cheever and Martins, while in the sprint race Cheever rounded out the top-5, with Martins ending up in 9th and Maisano in 10th.
Cheever is leading the European charts with 202 points, followed by Maisano (199). The Frenchman is on top of the Italian championship though, with 144 points, 8 more than Agostini. Cheever is sitting in third (130).
Angelo Rosin - Team Principal
"We faced a pretty intense and emotional weekend. It didn't go as we planned, and some of the things that happened taught us a good lesson for the future. The most important thing is having retained the lead in both championships…"
