It hasn't been an easy trip for Prema Powerteam at Vallelunga, in the penultimate round of the 2012 Formula Abarth. Despite the good results scored in the collective test and in practice, the Italian-based team's weekend was conditioned by a contact between Bruno Bonifacio and Luca Ghiotto in Race 1 while the two were fighting for the podium. The Brazilian shut the door while his team-mate was going for a move on the inside. Although it did not happen on purpose, the incident forced Ghiotto to stop for a new wing, while Bonifacio was penalized with a drive-through penalty. Despite his great recovery though, Ghiotto was also penalized for having passed the safety car before being authorized by the stewards.
In Race 3, Luca and Bruno ended up respectively in 6th and 12th. The overall balance of the team was somehow saved by Ghiotto's podium finish in Race 2, while Giorgio Roda, on the team's third Tatuus, collected a double 7th-place finish.
Angelo Rosin - Team Principal
"The incident that involved Bruno and Luca conditioned the team's whole weekend. Unfortunately, despite all the lessons taught, sometimes drivers get caught out by their passion. The stewards assessed deserved penalties to both, and I hope this will be a good lesson too. On the other hand, Giorgio has been flawless. He proved able to fight with all his rivals. Without the issues we suffered on-track we would have been on top in standings, but we'll try to score the most points and have our say for title in two weeks at Monza".
