PREMA Racing was back fighting today at Red Bull Ring, as the FIA Formula 2 Championship went on-track for the second and final race of the weekend. After a nightmare race 1 that saw him start last due to a technical issue, Mick Schumacher put together a masterpiece recovery.
The 20-year-old German took off from the 18th spot on the grid and fought back in impressive fashion, delivering some fine overtaking action and eventually ending up in fourth place. On the last lap, Schumacher had the chance to attack the third-placed car of championship leader Nyck de Vries but, despite doing his best, he took home a welcomed points finish.
On the other hand, 23-year-old Indonesian Sean Gelael soon had to dial with tires that were no longer in optimal shape. Despite the tough challenge, Gelael put up a valiant effort and ended up in 12th place, not too far from the top-10. PREMA Racing will now stop for a week off before returing to the track in a two-week time at Silverstone.

“We can only be happy with the race today, and I would like to thank the Team for giving me a great car today and yesterday. At the start, because of yesterday, I was a bit careful but from then onwards I had a lot more confidence with the brakes than the other guys and could overtake quite some at the breaking. Also with my tyres, I checked and had the feeling I could go for it in the hard breaking zones which is why I was choosing more or less the same point to overtake. In general I think we can be very happy with the pace we had this weekend and the result of today. Now we have to look ahead to Silverstone, build on that and try to score points there as well.”

“The car was good today, I had a good start, but a bad first lap. Happy to see Mick up there. We picked up damage towards the end with contact with another car and with some cars pitting we were just hanging on to 10th. Good to see the car is competitive, after a weird one yesterday. “
